I’ve heard my friend, Mike Bickle say: “I am be a poor follower but He is the best leader!” Oh how this mirrors my life. Sometimes I get out ahead of the Father but He is always able to redirect my missteps. He transforms my messes into a masterpiece. How often have we cried out in prayer, “Lord, show me your perfect will!” Only to be left wondering if my words even reached the ceiling let alone the ears of the Father. Some times we ask this believing the voice will shout or the prophet will knock on the front door, with the entire blue print. Yet it seldom comes that way.
I will let you in on little secret, the all creative Genesis chapter 1 God, delights in amazing you with 1000’s of different ways in coming to us! A dream, vision, burning bush, audible voice, trance, angelic visitation, sending the prophetic voice or even catching us up just to name a few! Read the scriptures looking for the many and varied ways God speaks and leads. The key to discerning His leadership in your life is to be faithful with what He gives. When we are faithful with a little He always gives more. Luke 6:38 says “give and it shall be given to you…” We often hear this taught in the context of giving and that is a contextually correct application. However this principle is true of much more than finances. If you give, share, or act upon what you’ve been given from by God, you’ll be given more!
Let’s look at Acts Chapter 8: “26 Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is desert. 27 So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, 28 was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet. 29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.”
Holy Spirit doesn’t give him a detailed GPS with all the drive turns laid out in advance. In fact he does the opposite. Holy Spirit gives one step and when Philip is faithful with that first step, then and only then, is the second command given. Being faithful with what you’ve been told is one of the secrets to receiving more! As you read the rest of the story, when Philip encountered the Eunuch he didn’t wait for any further instruction he knew exactly what to do, proclaim Jesus. He recognized immediately what the Spirit was leading and what come next came naturally supernatural.
He’s the best leader and I promise you, you’re at your best when you are following Him. Be faithful with a little and Abba will amaze you with the dreams He is dreaming for you!
