Spiritual Hunger Is A Gift
Hunger is the escort into the “Deeper Things of God! That’s the key. This is the Kingdom principle. God gives to the hungry. This truth unlocks everything. God gives to the hungering soul. The soul that hungers is the one that gets God’s food! God gives to only one type of person–the hungry person.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6
Only the hungry get Jesus. You don’t get Him if you’re not hungry. Now when you are hungry don’t listen to the voice of accusation, that whispers, “because you’re hungry, you’re not getting Him.” Dana Candler has said, “You cannot swim the depths of the knowledge of God without swimming into the waters of hunger and longing. However, we must be aware of the sharks in those waters — sharks of offense that lead to bitterness if not recognized.”
Now God will save you when you’re not even hungry for Him. He will ambush you. He’ll shine the light of the glorious gospel on your heart and you’ll respond and get into the family of God when you weren’t even thinking about it.
Our hunger and longing for more of Jesus is a true gift from the LORD. It takes God to love God could be paraphrased as it takes God to stir up hunger, longing, and desire for God in our hearts. Hunger drives us to do anything and everything to be in His presence.
My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. Psalms 63:1
But what if I don’t have it? Simply ask Him for it! Throughout the Gospels even when the need seemed obvious Jesus often asked, “What do you want me to do for you?” So ask him to give you a spiritual appetite.
Longing for God is not a sign of His absence but rather proof of His presence! Longing indicates your love. Remember a time when you were separated from your loved ones? Maybe it was work or health or school that took you away. You longed to spend time with them, reminisced about old times and dreamed of future times together. Oh the joy of that longing fulfilled, when you were reunited together. Your longing was in fact evidence of your love!
