He Is Visiting IHOPKC On February 5th

Brother Yun or Liu Zhenying (born 1958) is a Chinese preacher and evangelist. Since his ministry in China was underground, most of the following accounts are largely based on his autobiography, the heavenly man, and various interviews he gave. His life has been marked by both extreme persecutions and amazing miracles. Despite the life of poverty, he has reached many thousands, possibly millions, with the Christian gospel message. His preaching and example also helped many others to endure government persecution. Seen as a rebel for not joining the ‘official’ government-controlled Christian organisations (see: Three-Self Patriotic Movement), he was relentlessly persecuted by the Chinese authorities. He became a highly wanted man across several provinces. He was finally arrested and sentenced to many years in prison. However, he continued his ministry while in prison, preaching the Gospel and continuing his miracles. As a result, many prisoners and even some prison officials became born-again Christians. While he gained increasing favour from some officials, he also became a target of increased persecutions by others. He was repeatedly tortured and became so malnourished that his ears shrunk to the size of raisins by the time he miraculously escaped from the prison. While in prison, Yun undertook a total fast without food or water for 74 days.

After many years in prison, he miraculously escaped from Zhengzhou Maximum Security prison (from which nobody had previously escaped). He described how he heard the voice of the Holy Spirit, telling him to simple walk out the heavily guarded prison gate. Risking being shot to death on the spot, he obeyed the voice, and he walked straight through several prison doors that were somehow left open in front of many prison guards, across the prison yard and finally out of the main gate. He says that it was as if he had become invisible to the guards who stared straight through him. Although many expressed doubts that such could happen, some prison guards had apparently lost their jobs for this ’embarrassing mishap.’ The official investigation by the Chinese Government concluded that “Yun received no human help in his escape.” These reports have been also confirmed by numerous prisoners who occupied the same prison cell as Yun. Apparently, he remains the only person to have escaped from the notorious maximum security prison.

His ministry struggled briefly when Chinese Christians became increasingly fearful of housing him because of the potential repercussions from government authorities. After escaping from China, Yun took asylum in Germany in 2001 and has since been continuing his ministry from there. His ministry since has expanded around the globe. He is also a leader of the “Back to Jerusalem Movement” which seeks to send thousands of missionaries out from China into the least-gospel-reached countries of the world, most existing between China and Israel.

He is married to Deling with whom he has two children. How has brother Yun and/or the Heavenly Man impacted you?

  1. If Lou calls for a “Brother Yun fast”, I’m gonna bolt! CBB

  2. You may not believe this, but true story, Brother Yun is my 9 year old son , Noah’s favorite. When we were at IHOP Noah tried to get us to buy the book, which he read in bits and pieces in Forerunner Bookstore. He was 7 and 8 then. When I told him that Brother Yun was coming to IHOP Noah beamed.

    Bless Brother Yun!

That is awesome. I wonder if he’s going to speak… I’d turn on the webstream, but I’m in the middle of an extended internet fast at home. I absolutely loved his book.

  4. I have just finished reading this book. This book is a great help for anyone who is preparing to serve the Lord. When I started reading this I didn’t have much idea that our church (in India); is also about to go through a time of trial and persecution. This book helped me to analyze my walk with Christ and make sure that I cling to Him in all conditions. Now in the midst of persecution by people and media I could feel the assurance of God; and this book helped me a lot.
If a person doesn’t believe in the events mentioned in this book it could mean that he doesn’t believe in Bible either; because Bible is full of visions, Revelations, Supernatural events and Persecutions.

Thank God for this dear brother Yun.

I just got back from an IHOP visit, and I was looking for brother Yun’s messages at the bookstore. The folks at the bookstore said it wasn’t there, but would be on the mp3 store. I looked for “Yun” and “Zhenying” in the mp3 store, but couldn’t find anything. Does anybody know the title of the message?

    Thanks!

  6. Honestly,

I don’t know if it is available. Since Brother Yun spoke, IHOP has become more sensitive to the fact that many of our brothers and sisters in the persecuted world can be persecuted for what they say while visiting here. So it might not be available on mp3

    Ah, ok. Thank you.
Yeah, when I was there on sunday, they were pulling some DVD’s from the shelves because of political content… understandable. We had a church here in oklahoma city that was threatened with losing its non-profit status several years ago. From what I understand, the church basically folded, and the building is now owned by a different church. 😦
