Pray For The Chapmans

Funeral For Little Maria Chapman & Pastor Releases Statement

The world doesn’t seem right when a child dies.  Five year old Maria Chapman, daughter of gospel singer Steven Curtis Chapman,  passed away after being struck by a vehicle driven by her older brother.  The Chapman’s pastor, Scotty Smith told CBN News that the outpouring of love and support for the family is overwhelming and spoke of the grief the family is experiencing.  Of the son who hit Maria he said:

“He understandably is just devastated.  Their beautiful home has a couple of bends in the road.  It just was totally an accident and this young man’s heart is crushed.”

Mr. Smith has been a friend of the family’s for over 20 years.  He urges people not to forget Maria’s brother in their prayers.

“I encourage all to just redouble their prayers. because we all can predict how the enemy will try and whisper in his heart,” he said.

Visitation for Maria will start today, May 23 at the Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashville.  Her memorial service will be held Saturday, May 24 at 11 a.m.

Our prayers for Maria’s brother hope he can forgive himself and know that he has thousands upon thousands of people praying for him.

  1. to quote lyrics,
“this is what it is to be held,
how it feels when the sacred is torn from our lives and we survive.
this is what it means to be loved
    and to know
that the promise was- when everything fell, we’d be held”

my heart and prayers go out to your family.

  2. “But Thou, Oh Lord, Are A Shield for me, My Glory and The Lifter Up of My Head” – I cannot imagine your grief – it seems you have suffered two losses, first Maria and possibly the happiness your teenage son should be experiencing at his age with so much of his life ahead of him. I pray that God will comfort your family and especially your son in only a way that our Heavenly Father can do. I know words and thoughts seem so inadequate at this time, but He tells us, as you all well know, that His grace is sufficient and somehow, someway, and in His time He will carry you through this storm.

    Lifting you without ceasing -

  3. Linda,

Keeping offering up those powerful, heartfelt prayers!

  4. We know Maria is in heaven. My heart goes to your son, and I pray for his life to be covered by the infinite mercy of our heavenly father, and our Lord and Saviour JesusChrist.
